Colourful Door Monday

Yes, I know, it's almost Tuesday, but I'm sneaking in under the wire on this!!

This door isn't extraordinary, but I do like it...especially the colour. It is small and could even be considered an 'Emily' door...look how high up the handle is! I don't know, this just seems like a nice, happy little door...it would make me happy to come home to this every day.

Hello Pretty Blue Door!!

Colourful Door Monday

Well, once upon a time this door was colourful!! Despite this poor door's lack of love and a fresh coat of paint, I still like it's colour and it does have charm and character. I especially like how the double windows are the same shape as the one large window overhead in the door's frame. And the door's frame...it seems to have faired far better than the door itself...the only thing that I wonder about is whether the window over the door originally had a different kind of glass in it...stained glass window or maybe beveled glass? It just seems to me that the glass there now is too plain; too normal for the rest of the door and frame...but maybe I'm wrong. As for this door's accessories, I'm not showing you a close-up of the handle because, as you can see well enough from the second picture...it just isn't worth mentioning and the person who chose it had zero imagination and not even an ounce of creativity. Too bad...this door deserves something nice. I wonder what it's original handle looked like.

Colourful Door Monday AND my 100th Door!!

OK, so today is Monday, but even though it is the beginning of the week (and not the end) it is a good day because today marks a special day: the 100th post of 'The Door Hunter'!! Wooo-hooo!! In honour of this special day, I am giving you a very special (AND Colourful Monday) door.

I came across this door near the Jewish Synagogue and before I actually saw it, I felt it...as if it was calling to me...really! Yes, you're thinking: "Sure, this is a fabulous gate, but where's the colour?" Well, just wait. Enjoy this part first because it is so worth enjoying. (By the way, this is NOT an 'Emily door' even though it may look small it really isn't!)

I envy the people who live in the apartment building that this door belongs to because they get to come into and go out of these doors everyday. What better way to start and end your day than to go through such inspiring doors. As you can see there is a date of 1911 in the wrought-iron door which puts it in the period of Art Deco. I look at this door and just can't seem to find enough words to describe the way it makes me feel so I will let you find your own to describe your own reactions to it.

AND NOW, for our Monday dose of COLOUR: BLUE!! Isn't this a gorgeous shade of blue? When I saw it, I think my heart skipped a beat and I sucked in a big breath of air all at once!!

A NOTE REGARDING MY 100TH POST: I started this blog because I love doors...this, you know. I hoped by showing these doors that I could not only interest other people who love doors to look at it, but maybe to also lure people to this wonderful city. I didn't start this blog to collect 'followers' (which is a good thing, because even after showing 100 doors, I still only have 13 followers!!), but to just give anyone and everyone something nice to look at each day. As I mentioned before, I enjoy your comments and I hope that you will continue to enjoy my posts. If you want to suggest this blog to friends that also like doors, please do. The more of us, the merrier. I do know that it is addictive to look at and for doors; since starting this blog, I have the nearly annoying habit of checking out every door that I pass on the street or that I see from the car or bus or tramway!! It definitely has become second nature for me...but maybe you know about this. If you do, write to me, I would love to hear door hunting stories from other 'door addicts'. Thank you for reading my blog and for your wonderful comments. Have an excellent day and week! Cat

Colourful Door Monday

Ah, now isn't this a nice blue?! I saw this door from quite a distance and nearly ran to it I was so attracted to it...it was just so inviting!

Though the face above the door is neither happy nor sad, it doesn't turn you away. The flowers around the arch are also delicate and light and inviting. The lines of the door and its windows are tastefully decorative and flowing and are in accordance with the arch that surrounds the door. If I MUST find something unpleasant about this door, it would be the handle. It is unfortunate that they didn't find something with more character and style! Otherwise, in my book, this door is an absolute winner!

Colourful Door Monday

I like this door! No, the door itself doesn't have a LOT of character, but the frame has a story to tell which I would like to know, but don't...and the light blue color of the door is like a summer sky...light, cheery and uplifting. I like how the six square windows in the door are complimented by the 12 squares above the doors. The lions watching over the playing babies actually inspire confidence...well, they make me feel confident!

Honesty and the Blue Door

Honesty...that is my motto. Why am I telling you this here and now? Well, because I want to be honest with you from the start: I am not always going to show you picture-perfect doors because, despite the fact that there are a lot of those in this city, there are also a lot of sad, under-loved doors that deserve our attention. Forgive them for not looking their best ... it isn't their fault that no one has given them the love they merit.

Today's door is one such door...just look at it: tall and strong with honorable designs carved into it including the ever-popular noble-looking lion's head! And what a beautiful shade of blue!! The door handle is simple yet not without character and never mind that the wrought iron work above the door is in desperate need of a scrubbing (as is the rest of the door!) it's beautiful, too! OK, so maybe the door frame is a bit boring...I have the impression that those designs were carved into the frame rather recently..probably when they decided to honor the famous person who once lived there. In case you were wondering, the text at the top of the door frame says that a man by the name of Pavel Josef Safarik, (who, according to Wikipedia, was a Slovak philologist, poet, one of the first scientific Slavists; literary historian and ethnographer) lived in that building and died there in 1861.
